San Francisco is a beautiful city, like most, in parts. Always hard as a tourist to not view the visible poor. They approach easily, request small change or offer something illicit. You can often tell a lot of a city by how they treat their homeless.
We weren't sure when they constructed the Golden Gate Bridge, if they knew at the time it would perpetually remain in the clouds. The coastline fog never leaves the top of its beams. One thing we have encountered more of than Los Angeles, is Jehovah Witnesses. It seems they are attracted to the San Fran crowd than what we saw in LA. Today we had a Jehovah on every street corner with a book in hand and a smile wanting to talk. No one did though, even the homeless steered clear of them. Another common theme we've become accustomed to, "with soup or salad?" Every meal is brought to you with either soup or salad. We've tried ordering only soup or salad to see what accompanies those dishes, turns out they bring the other along with a side of bread. At one stage we had 3 soups, 3 salads and two breads, much to the confusion of the waiter.
Tommy's Joint gave us a delight for lunch, the 'Original' sandwich. Jamie ordered pulled pork while I chose the Turkey Special. Turns out what made the turkey special was it didn't come in a sandwich, it came as one giant leg of a turkey. Jamie enjoyed her sandwich while I gnawed on a turkey leg. Fortunatey 3 beers managed to stifle the overdose of turkey.
In the afternoon we strolled the downtown piers. Ian learned the difference between seals and sea lions were the ears. Sea lions seemed to enjoy playing who is king of the castle, as they boisterously jostled for floatilla dominance, much to the delight of the thousand onlookers.
As recommended we sunk ourselves into some clam chowder. Fantastically fresh and creamy while Ian loved his crab linguine.
The final journey for the day was waiting for our No.2 bus back to Sosalito where we had parked our van. After waiting longer than usual another bewildered commuter turned to us to clarify if the No.2 does indeed pick up from here. We said Google had told us it did, as was his understanding. Turns out we were both heading to Sosalito so took an Uber together and split the cost. Paul was heading to a friends boat for a night of fun with his bottle of champagne. His advice for us when hearing of our travel plans were; 1. Explore the folk music scene at each destination, you meet such wonderful characters, and 2. Dont set your mind on returning until the very last moment when you absolutely have to, stay focused in the relaxation and enjoyment of yor trip for as long as you can make it last.
Thaks for the advice Paul, take it easy on the boat with your mates. Cheers

We hired bikes for a day in SF. Great fun with dedicated bike lanes. Safer that riding in Mildura.
