Salmon Pebbles

Baby wipe showers are a thing. We were woken by wood peckers in the Big Sur State Park.
Nights have been good to us, no late night visitors asking us to move along. We stay nervous until our bed is made, which happens around 9pm. Further modifications to the fly wire screen made us feel like genuine home owners. Pegs meld better to fly wire than duct tape.
A short drive along the beach this day. Making our way North, closer to San Fran. We've been approached twice now, while at rest stops and asked about our van. The question is usually, "why didn't you get an RV?"
This night we decided to pull up alongside the Pacific at a small rest area, just cozy enough for one vehicle. A little exploring along the rocks reaped the first rock collection. Steak for dinner was to Ian's review, 'a little too rare.' But both of us were too hungry to place it back on the flame.
The following day took us up into Pebble Beach and Monterey. We've learnt now that State Parks must be seriously under resourced. The going rate for Park entry is $12.50, that's just to walk around, or at Pebble Beach, that is to drive through. We chose against paying the money, instead drove to a nearby park area and walked as far as we could along the beach. Far enough so Ian could stare at the PGA Pebble Beach Golf Course. There seemed to be an Amateurs Tour event on as Ian spotted a caddy with the name, David Micheluzzi, turns out he was Australian!
A brief stop at Star Bucks for their wifi and route planning, then we were off to a Thrifty store to see if we could scrounge some cheap kitchen items for the van.
We took a scenic route through Big Basin Redwoods State Park as we made our way North. Gorgeous forest, green trees but dry grass. Winding small roads with plenty of cyclist's and deer to slow down for. We stopped briefly at a look out and were cautioned on Mountain Lion's and Marijuana Crops. If we saw a Lion we needed to raise our arms, possibly the same for a marijuana crop.
A drive through San Fran, we expect to go back there the following day, as we aimed to sleep just North of the Golden Gate Bridge.
So, that is where you find this story. Near a missile site in a van as the wind gusts outside. More deer have been spotted including one curious fellow as we were cooking our dinner. Salmon was served tonight and one of us (Ian) wasn't able to decipher the US$ conversion to lbs ratio. So we ended up eating $50 Salmon from the market, which to be honest, was arguably the best salmon either of us have tasted as we sat overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge with wild deer strolling by.

  2. You get a sense from the photos how dry the undergrowth is. No wonder they get fires.
Love the sprouts, if you want a lot do you toss the branch over your shoulder?

  3. Pounds to metric is easy. 2.2lb is one kilogram, so I just used roughly 2 to 1 to convert.
Fuel is funny tho. 3.8l is one American gallon, where we are 4.5l to an Aus gallon.
